MATERIALS WE USE

Wood

The primary material used at the studio. A majority of it is salvaged from construction waste. Other types of wood are cutoffs and scraps from local artists and businesses, including our own!

Wood Chips

We chip any piece of wood that is either too small to use in standard applications or too damaged to salvage. An entire line of terrazzo products is in development so that no chip has been chopped in vain.

Sawdust

Sawdust is a by-product of our own production and will be used in various applications. Currently, we are researching the most sustainable method for binding.

Paper

Junk mail and old documents are shredded and turned into a pulp. The pulp is then mixed with a binder and used to make furniture and other objects. Most of the paper we source comes from our own team, but we hope to take on more in the very near future!

Stone + Tile

This is another by-product of the construction industry. Once broken or scratched, they are typically tossed in the dumpster. At our studio, however, we celebrate those imperfections and use even the smallest bits for inlays. A mosaic collection is also in development.

Plastic Bags

If I had a nickel for every plastic bag I chased down while it blew aimlessly in the wind, I’d have….well, a lot of money by now. Those plastic bags are here to stay whether we like it or not, so we might as well turn them into a whole line of textiles. Yeah you read that right…textiles!

Textiles

The design industry throws away tons of samples everyday and we are grateful to come across a bunch every now and then. Though the samples are small in size, we can still use them in many ways. A collection of totes and other products are currently in production!

Rusty nails

Rusty nails may seem like an odd thing to save, but we actually use the rust to dye fabric. The process is continuous, since metal will continue to rust as long as it is exposed to moisture. In essence, we have a never ending supply of dye!
